The Roadrunner Café opened in November 2006 filling the void left by Caleb’s who had earlier filled the void left by the Sunrise Bakery which was the original restaurant in the Plaza del Pueblo Mall. Donna Ryan thought that it would be a good opportunity to try and reproduce the success enjoyed by the previous tenants. So she asked her partner (now husband) Bob who had owned a similar type of restaurant, Correcaminos Café in San Jose del Cabo, to help and he flatly refused. But in the end after much negations and discussing new sleeping arrangements, they compromised and did it Donna's way.

Donna and Bob had collected old restaurant ware for a couple of years so it was an easy decision to remodel the interior and imitate the 50’s diner look. Donna designed the interior; the booths and barstools were ordered from the states and much of their collection is now in daily use. So the answer to a frequently asked question is “No, we didn’t steal the Denny’s mugs.”

Donna and Bob live in Spa Buena Vista in a home she built in the mid 90’s. She is an illustrator by trade and began her career at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii drawing teeny little insects that she observed through a microscope. After working in various types of art and graphics, she has retired and settled in the Spa where she continues to lead a busy life creating tile murals and dragging her husband into various questionable endeavors.

Bob left school with an advanced degree in winging it and has never really had any skills worth mentioning. As for accomplishments, he once won honorable mention in the annual 4th of July parade after his aunt dressed him as a lion trainer and stuck him and her pet Pekinese in a chicken wire cage on the back of the family pickup. Bob really doesn’t know what he wants to do when he grows up.
